Ensemble

It was the 9th of December 2001 when the great Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich accepted the Honorary Presidency of the nascent Chamber Orchestra I Solisti di Pavia, established thanks to the passion of Enrico Dindo and the commitment of the Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lombardia.

In over twenty years of activity, I Solisti have undertaken successful international tours that have repeatedly taken them to Russia and South America, as well as to the Baltic Republics, Lebanon, Algeria, Malta, Switzerland, Turkey, Germany, Croatia and Slovenia, performing at prestigious venues such as the Hermitage Theatre in St. Petersburg, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Salle Paderewski in Lausanne, Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires and the Salle Gaveau in Paris. In 2004, the ensemble was invited to Algiers for the closing of the Semester of the Italian Presidency of the European Union.

In Italy, I Solisti di Pavia have performed on the most important stages of theatres, festivals and concert seasons. Venues include La Scala Theatre, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Ravello Festival, Siena’s Accademia Chigiana, Vicenza’s Olimpico Theatre, Unione Musicale, Modena’s Pavarotti Theatre, Trento Philharmonic Society, Musical Evenings in Milan, Manzoni Theatre in Bologna and Politeama Theatre in Palermo. They have performed with artists of the calibre of Massimo Quarta, Sergej Krilov, Bomsori,  Laura Marzadori, Simone Rubino, Kai Strobel, Giuliano Carmignola, Ottavio Dantone,  Felix Klieser, Pietro De Maria and Andrea Lucchesini.

The annual programme of performances offered to the city of Pavia is constant, with classical repertoires and monographic cycles of concerts. Since 2016, the chamber music festivals “I Cortili in Musica” and “Bach in Città” have distinguished the musical programme, reaping great appreciation from audiences and enriching the musical scene even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Led by Enrico Dindo’s talent and enthusiasm, the ensemble has always varied its repertoire, moving with ease from baroque to contemporary styles and also realising crossover projects such as “Valentina! Un violoncello a fumetti”, which brought together the comic strip art of Guido Crepax with the compositions of Jorge Bosso.

I Solisti di Pavia have recorded six CDs for the Velut Luna label with music by Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Rota, Respighi, Martucci, Puccini, Shostakovich, Stravinskij and Françaix, as well as works by some of the most important Italian composers of the moment such as Carlo Boccadoro, Carlo Galante and Roberto Molinelli, who have dedicated their works specifically to the group.

Since 2011, again with Enrico Dindo, I Solisti have recorded six concertos for cello and strings by A. Vivaldi, the three concertos for cello and strings by C.P.E. Bach for DECCA, followed by N. Kapustin’s cello concerto and Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons in 2013, and F. J. Haydn’s two concertos for cello and orchestra in 2015.
